Build Your Own Empire

Course Description

In Build Your Own Empire, students will learn about the process of creating a sustainable society and even have the chance to create their own. In the first week of this two week course, students will learn about different historical empires and the aspects of modern society that make it sustainable, such as laws or the economy. In the second week of the course, students will be placed into small groups and will have the opportunity to create their own empire using the tools developed in the first week. Each student run empire will then interact with one another to stimulate the trials and tribulations of running a sustainable society. By the end of this course students should have an understanding of prominent empires throughout history and what it takes to create a sustainable society.

Day 1: Introduction/Overview of Course
Day 2: Ancient Empires and Current Day Influence: Mesopotamia, Persian, Incan, Aztec, Egyptian
Day 3: Laws of Ancient and Modern Societies
Day 4: Great Rulers/Philosophers
Day 5: Ancient Empires and Current Day Influence: Chinese, Indian, Roman, Greek
Day 6: Simulation: Mock United Nations
Day 7: Trade Simulation
Day 8: Modern Empires/Governments
Day 9: Military Strategy, Alliances, and Treaties
Day 10: Travel Brochures + Presentations
