Our Responses to Recent World Events
Inno's Open Letters
Friday, July 10, 2020
Dear Friends,
Let’s cut straight to the chase. Inno functions under the mentality that everyone is worthy of dignity and respect, and it is heartbreaking that there are still people in this country who discriminate against others on the basis of the color of their skin, a bleak reality the recent deaths of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd have exemplified. This is unacceptable. Human dignity and respect are values every person should uphold, and we expect no less from our team members.
We want you all to know that we hear you, we support you, and we believe in you. Education should be accessible and equitable for everyone, and Inno fully stands behind this concept. No matter your background - your race, gender identity, religious beliefs, age, culture, or sexual orientation - we believe in your potential to succeed and find passion in what you do. The diversity we have within our team and in our campers makes the Inno experience just that much more meaningful and drives us to view our work from multifaceted perspectives. It is integral in the way we operate, and we would not be the same organization without the medley of experiences our team members bring to the table.
As we continue to plan for the future, Inno will strive to build an increasingly diverse team with members who will incorporate their unique backgrounds into our curriculum. We will also work towards extending our reach beyond the Ann Arbor community. Ultimately, we hope to inspire as many people as possible through our work, and connecting with peers from all tastes and walks of life is a journey we are excited to continue.
Please feel free to reach out to any member of the Inno Education leadership team if you have questions or comments or if we can provide support in any way. Working together, we have full confidence that we can create a more educated, just, and respectful world.
Yours Truly,
Elizabeth Li and Maya Baveja
