2019 INNO SUMMER INSTITUTE
Saving the Planet in 10 Days
This course bridges the gaps between science, engineering, history, and economics in exploring the economic, social, and environmental factors of sustainability. In the first week, students will be introduced to issues that pertain to each of these facets and will begin thinking about potential solutions. During the second week, students will explore how they can improve sustainability in their own communities and, through building projects, develop solutions to the issues previously discussed in Week 1. Learning will be primarily interactive, with activities including class surveys, ethical discussions, and shared care of a class plant. Students will leave the class with a well-rounded understanding of sustainability and what they can do to help the planet become a greener place.
